Macaw thinking???

Postby KC's Dad on Mon Jun 29, 2009 12:05 am

We just brought our B&G home yesterday, We are so excited about having her home after waiting for so long to get her. We got into the car and she seemed to be upset a little, not to bad or as much as I thought it would be, We got her home and she calmed right down after about twenty minutes. I noticed she was breathing pretty oddly , but I figured it was because she was upset over the change from the store to her new home but like I said after about twenty minutes or so she was fine and was playing with us and exploring her new BIG cage we bought for her. She did do something that we thought was strange, It was almost like she was making this coughing sound, I watched her closely, then I dipped my finger in some water and she drank it then she drank from her bowl and was fine....Then later that night my wife calls me at work and says she is doing it again..so I told her to give her to dip her finger and give her a drink when my wife did this KC tried to step up on her hand. I am thinking that she does this to try to get us to take her out of the cage....Do Macaws really think this way? Are they this sneaky? I thought it was funny she tried to get out this way, she was in the cage because it was bed time.

I would take her in for a checkup as soon as you can and if you got her form a pet store all the more reason you never now what they can picup in those situations I hope she came with a health garentee of some sort. If she contues to breath heavily that is a sign that something is really wrong.
